24 selected to represent Kabale at the National Kids Athletics Championship.Tobias Habasa

A team of 24 athletes for both boys and girls, U-under 14 and U-12, has today been selected to represent Kabale District at the National Kids Athletics Championship slated for between 17-26 April 2022 in Mbale District.
According to the Kabale District Sports officer, Gilbert Orikiriza, the district organized preliminary competitions from the school level to the District level in preparation for the National Championship.
Orikiriza added that the kids competed in different Athletic Disciplines ranging from 60metre sprint for U12 and 14, 4x1500metre relay for U-12 and 14, 800metres both categories and 16-5 multiple jump. Others are javelin, shotput, Discus and long jump both categories, among others.
In his closing remarks, the Kabale District Education officer, Moses Tumwijukye Bwengye, said that in each category, six athletes were selected each category in the U-12 and U14 categories for both boys and girls.
He added that today’s competitions which were competed for at the constituency level between Ndorwa West and Ndorwa East, which make up Kabale District Administration-KDA, saw Ndorwa East emerge the winner overall.
He, however, said that the selected team is expected to put their differences aside and represent the district, adding that the team is expected put a spirited competition and win the Championship.
The Kabale District Deputy Speaker, Ronald Ian Mugisha, who graced the competitions urged the kids to remain focused and embrace sports and take it as an employment venture, adding that several people are earning a lot in sports and sporting activities.
