Kabale Appoints a Substantive District Health Officer.

The Kabale District Service Commission, has appointed the Rugarama Hospital medical superintendent, Dr Gilbert Arineitwe Mateeka, as the new substantive District health officer-DHO.

According to the letter dated 27th July 2022 and signed by the Kabale district service commission secretary, Edison Twinomugisha, Dr Mateeka, was appointed following the recent interviews conducted by the District Service Commission. He is set to replace, Alfred Besigensi, who has been occupying the office of the District Health officer in acting capacity.

Kabale District, has not had a substantively appointed DHO since 2016, when Dr Patrick Tusiime, was promoted as the Commissioner-Department of Communicable Diseases, Prevention and Control in the Ministry of Health.

Dr Tusiime, was replaced by Immaculate Mandela and later Alfred Besigensi and each served three years in acting capacity.

Dr Mateeka, has been at the helm of Rugarama Hospital medical superintendent for since 2008. He holds a degree in medicine from the University of China and another degree in Health service management from Clarke International University of Kampala.


Meanwhile, Henry Tumwesigye, was appointed the District Natural Resources officer, to fill the void left by Dr Rodgers Akatwijuka, who last year moved to Kabale University.


Other appointments saw, Richard Bugaiga and Gerald Mwesigwa, appointed as Assistant entomological officers and Daphine Logose and Edwin Agaba, as Assistant Nursing officers in psychiatry department. Jennifer Byonanebye, has been appointed as the Education officer in charge of special needs.
