Kabale registers an increase in Malaria cases.

Kabale district has registered an increase in malaria cases in the last six weeks according to the district Health Educator, Alfred Besigensi.

 

Speaking during the district malaria taskforce meeting held in the district boardroom on Friday, Besigensi noted that 660 cases of malaria recorded in the last six weeks.

 

He says that the cases were recorded from January 2023 to date, with Southern division alone recording 131 cases, followed by Central division with 119 malaria cases. Butanda Sub County registered 61 cases, while Kamuganguz Sub County registered 47 cases.

 

Others are Kyanamira, Rubaya, Maziba Sub counties and Northern division that have each registered 41 malaria cases, while Kitumba registered 37, Buhara 31, Kaharo 27, Katuna town council 24, and Ryakarimira town council 19 malaria cases.

 

Besigensi, says that the district’s positivity rate stands at 10 percent compared to the previous percentage of 5 to 6. He calls on people embrace all the malaria preventive measures like sleeping under treated mosquito nets.

 

The Kabale Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Ronald Bakak, who chaired the meeting asked the relevant stakeholders to continue sensitizing the public on the proper utilizing of available anti-malaria medicines and others measures in order to reduce the cases in the district.

 

The Kabale District LCV Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija, says that it is imperative that the residents adhere to preventive guidelines to forestall the continued spread of the disease.
