The Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Mr Darius Nandinda, has intervened in the matters of the Kabale municipality journalist Emyooga Sacco and ordered for the arrest of the chairman of the SACCO chairman, Moses Tahoreraho and some members of his executive committee, after they failed to account for 30million shillings they received from government in May 2021.
Mr Nandinda, made the order today during a general meeting of members, held at Kabale district, chaired by district commercial officer, Erasmus Natumanya. During the meeting the Journalists’ general assembly, unanimously denounced Tahoreraho as their chairman, before he was replaced Andrew Amanya.
The members also called for the old SACCO committee to be disbanded and agreed that a new committee constituted. Following the agreement, Smith Ainomugisha was elected the secretary, while Abaho Tabaro was elected the treasurer. Other members who were elected on the committee include, Barnabas Tugumisirize, Judith Ninsiima, Ritah Ninsiima, Rogers Asiimwe.
Earlier on, chaos had erupted after the members rejected Tahoreraho’s accountability report. In his accountability report, Tahoreraho indicated that the SACCO has so far spent 36 million shillings on renting offices, buying stationary, operational and administration costs, plus loans disbursed to members among others, but he could not explain how this money was spent.
Members, led by the general secretary, Andrew Amanya, the treasurer, Bright Manure and Banabas Tugumisirize, a committee member denounced Tahoreraho and quashed his accountability report, saying that he didn’t involve any of them, since he had usurped all their positions.
The RDC Nandinda, later ordered for Ntahoreraho’s arrest alongside his treasurer, Bright Manure and the Rubanda District Deputy Speaker, Pierre Mbabazi, whom he were accused of taking the SACCO money, yet they are not journalists. He also ordered that other non-journalists that received the funds should refund it with immediate effect, failure for which they will be charged with obtaining money by false pretense. This is the third time, Tahoreraho, is being arrested over the same issue in a period less than two months this year.
