Kigarama-Kvu Road works Launched

Authorities in Kabale District have today launched rehabilitation works on the 13-kilometer Kigarama-Kavu road in Maziba Sub County.
The road that connects Nyanja and Karweru parishes with Rwanda, is estimated to cost 615 million shillings.

Speaking at the launch of rehabilitation works at Heigugwe Trading Center, in Kanyakutana cell of Nyanja parish, the Kabale district Engineer, Januario Turinawe Bagamuhunda, explained that the scope of rehabilitation works, includes site preparatory works, setting out and site clearing work, gravelling, and among others.
He added that the District, has already received, 270 million shillings out of 615 million shillings required to undertake the project, which will be implemented by the district under Force Account.

The Ndorwa East Member of Parliament, Wilfred Niwagaba, and the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, said that they lobbied the funds from the Ministry of Finance, as an Emergency fund from Uganda Road Fund. They noted that the road will facilitate easy transportation of agricultural products like pineapples, onions, and avocados among others to market places.
The Legislators, promised to continue lobbying, until when all roads in the District are upgraded to be better standards.

The Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, the district Principal Assistant Secretary, James Mugisha and the District LC5 Vice Chairperson, Miria Akankwasa Tugume, commended the cooperation that exists between the legislators in the District, which they said has helped to improve service delivery, since the legislators are able to lobby a project together. They also called on the residents to own the road project, and ensure that they supervise it well so that quality work is executed.
