The ministry of health in partnership with Child fund international, with funding from Nutrition international, are set to roll out extended Integrated Child health days, targeting Children aged between 6 to 59 months, who missed out on vitamin A vaccine and deworming in October this year.

The campaign for Kabale district, was launched on Monday this week, with the training of health center II in-charges at Kabale district Rukiiko hall in Kabale municipality. Henry Kuuya, an epidemiologist in the ministry of health, who oversaw the training, said that the Child health days’ campaign, are an extension of the campaign that was held in October this year, targeting to inoculate Children Vitamin A supplements and deworming.

He added that the ministry decided to roll out the extended campaign after they realized that they did not achieve their projected 80 percent. Kuuya said that the extended campaign is expected to be rolled out before the end of this year.

The Acting Kabale district health officer, Alfred Besigensi, said that the although the district achieved 106 percent for Vitamin A supplementation and 97.5 for deworming, there was an unspecified number of Children, who were left behind, since some sub counties failed to hit the target. He called for cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure no child is left behind.
