Ministry of Water and Environment launches plans to finance evictees of swamps as measure of restoring swamps.Tobias Habasa
Ministry of water and environment, under the “Enhancing resilience of Communities to Climate Change through Catchment-Based Integrated Management of Water and Related Resources in Uganda (EURECCCA), has started registering people, who were evicted from wetlands, so that they can benefit from government revolving funds.
Addressing residents of Maziba Sub County in Kabale district, who were evicted from Ikona Swamp, at the sub county headquarters on Monday afternoon August 30th 2021 , the EURECCCA social cooperate officer, Annet Kwariija Nareeba, observed that government intends to start the Ameizi N’obuhangwa cooperative organization, to allow all the people who were affected by the wetland restoration to access revolving funds, so that they can better their lives.
She also said that the project, which is being implement with funding the Adaptation Fund and Sahara and the Sahel Observatory, will also fund groups of evictees, who undertake projects making of cooking stoves, permaculture, cuniculture, zero grazing, tree nursery, goat rearing, craft making, banana plantation, apiary and fishing
The Kabale district commercial Erasmus Natumanya, urged the people of Maziba Sub County to learn to form groups, so that they continue to benefit from government programs.
