Ministry of Water officials and Kabale Leaders survey Water stressed areas in Ndorwa East.

The Kabale District Woman Member Parliament, Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, together with the Ndorwa East MP, Wilfred Niwagaba, and the Kabale District LC5 Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija, have today led a delegation of officials from the Ministry of Water and Environment to the Sub Counties of Buhara, Maziba and Kyanamira, to assess water stressed areas and plan the construction of water supply systems there.

The Ministry of Water and Transport delegation, was led by Steven Kaguhangire, a senior Engineer in the ministry. Also present during the visit were, the Kabale District Principal secretary, James Mugisha, who represented the Chief Administrative officer, Edmond Ntimba, the District Engineer, Januario Bgamuhunda and members District Executive members among others.

Some of the water sources visited include, Omukabaale and Kacura-Ikubya in Bugarama parish and Kahama water spring in Kafunjo parish.
Hon Atwakiire said that she together with the Ndorwa East Mp, Niwagaba, who both sit on the budget committee of Parliament, applied to the Ministry of Water and Environment for an assessment, after realizing that residents in over 30 villages in Ndorwa East, trek long distances in search of clean water.

Niwagaba, urged the Ministry officials to expedite the feasibility studies, so that the funds are allocated for constructing waters sources in these water stressed sub counties in the next financial year.
The Kabale District LC5 Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija, commended the Mps for trying to lobby for their electorate. He, promised that as the district leadership, they are ready to cooperate and work with all other leaders to ensure proper service delivery for the people of Kabale.

The Ministry’s head of delegation, Eng Kaguhangire, said that all the visited water sources, have enough water that can be extended to all water stressed areas. He added that their next step, will be to conduct a detailed feasibility study and designs are submitted so that these areas are included in the next Financial Year.
