Kabale District CAO woos pupils to embrace Sports to earn a living.

A total of 24 athletes from Ndorwa West and Ndorwa East constituencies, have been selected to represent Kabale District at the national Kids Athletics and Special Needs Learners’ Championship, slated for next month in Luwero district.
According to the Sports officer- Kabale District, Gilbert Orikiriza, the selection of the Athletes started at the school level to zonal level, sub county level and finally up to the constituency level, where two teams were selected to for the district championship, from which 24 athletes were selected to represent the district. He adds that the team composed of 24 athletes, includes u-12 and u-14 categories, will compete at the national championship.
Orikiriza says that the kids competed in several disciplines like Athletics, Javelin, Shot put, high jump and long jump among others.
Speaking at the district championship held on Monday at the Kigezi High school primary playground in Kabale Municipality, the Acting Kabale District Education Officer, Moses Bwengye Tumwijukye, said that the district is ready to send the team for the national Kids Athletics and Special Needs Learners’ Championship to be hosted at Luwero Boys Primary School in Luwero district from 7th to 16th May 2023.
Speaking as the Guest of Honor during the event, the Kabale District Chief Administrative Officer, Fred Kalyesubula, encouraged the selected leaners to train hard so that they can effectively represent district at the national championship. He also urged the young children to embrace sports, which he said has become a source of livelihood to many people, citing Uganda’s long-distance athletes Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo, who are earning big money from Athletics.
