Kabale District has extended a helping hand to 14 government-aided primary schools by donating 900 gauge-28 iron sheets, aimed at improving classroom infrastructure and creating a better learning environment for pupils.
According to the Acting Kabale District Education Officer, Moses Bwengye Tumwijukye, the iron sheets were procured under the School Maintenance Grant and will benefit schools where parents have already mobilized resources to construct classroom blocks up to the roofing stage.
Tumwijukye noted that the district adopted a policy to support such community efforts by providing roofing materials to schools that have permanent structures with completed timber frameworks. “This initiative is meant to motivate and recognize the contributions of parents towards education,” he said.
The handover ceremony took place at Sullivan Square at Kabale District Headquarters.
Speaking at the event, Kabale District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Ronald Mutegeki, commended the effort and called on school stakeholders to ensure the materials are used appropriately. “These iron sheets must be used for their intended purpose — to provide safe and conducive classrooms for learners. Any misuse will not be tolerated,” he warned.
Mutegeki also lauded the district’s initiative of complementing community efforts. “Many schools across the country remain incomplete due to lack of roofing materials. This intervention is a timely and practical solution,” he added.
Presiding over the handover, Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Martin Niwataho, praised the district leadership for prioritizing education infrastructure. He emphasized the need to shift focus from election activities to service delivery. “With elections behind us, our focus must be on improving public services, especially education,” he said.
