Thirteen women groups in Kabale District have received funds amounting to 89 million shillings from the Ministry of Gender, labour and Social development under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP).

According to the Senior Labour officer, Kabale District, Swizeen Ndyabawe, who is also the district UWEP focal person, the 13 women groups are part of 64 groups that were selected in the 2020-2021 financial year to benefit under the program, but did not benefit due to insufficient funds. Only 24 group benefited in the 2020/2021 financial year.

Speaking today during a meeting organized at the district headquarters, to train the beneficiaries on use and recovery of the funds, Ndyabawe said that the money is part of revolving funds that the district was able to recover under UWEP program in the last financial year.  He said that the groups have received between 5-10 million shillings.

Ndyabawe added that the money was recovered from women groups which benefited under the program in past financial years, and put on the district recovery account and sent to bank of Uganda.

He also says that the remaining 18 groups are slated to benefit in the next financial year from the funds being recovered in this financial year.
