Kabale District launches Big catch up immunization campaign for children who missed their routine Immunization

Kabale District on Friday this week launched the Big Catch-up immunization campaign targeting children who missed their routine immunization program.
According to the Kabale District Health Officer, Dr Gilbert Arineitwe Mateeka, the Big Catch Up Campaign aimed to reach 90% of zero dose children below 5 years by the end of this month.
Dr Mateeka added that the campaign aims to administer children aged 9 months to 59 months, with due doses of Measles and Rubella vaccine, while 10-year-old girls will be given a dose of Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
He adds that the campaign will also target non-pregnant women in the reproductive age (aged between 15-49 years), who will be inoculated with Tetanus-Diphtheria vaccine as well as administering praziquantel tablets to children aged 5-14 years in 78 schistosomiasis -endemic districts.
According to the District Health Educator, Alfred Besigensi, they have intensified the immunization in the next six days, where health workers will be going to all the outreach centers to administer these vaccines.
The Kabale District Assistant Health officer in charge Maternal and Child Health, Paddy Mwesigye, noted that the launch of the catch-up campaign, which was held at Makanga Primary school in Kabale Municipality was supported by the Rotary club of Kabale. He called on all parents and the general public to embrace the campaign.
