Local Government Minister Approves Annexure of Villages to Bwama Island Parish.

The Minister for Local Government, Rafael Magyezi, has under section 7 (7) of the Local Governments Act and in accordance with the Kabale District council resolution, approved the alignment of boundaries of Bukora, Mwendo and Bwama Island parishes in Kutumba Sub county of Kabale District.
In his letter dated 28th January 2025, addressed to the Kabale District Chairperson and copied to the State minister for Local Government, the electoral commission, executive director Uganda Bureau of statistics, the Resident District Commissioner Kabale, the Chief Administrative Officer Kabale and the District Elections Administrator Kabale, the Minister noted that the alignment of the boundaries takes immediate effect.
The minister was writing in response to a letter by the Kabale District Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija, dated 18th June 2024, Ref; ADM 105/135/02, in which he communicated the Kabale District council resolution under Minute No- COU 01/2023/2024(7), which requested to alter the boundaries of Bukora, Mwendo and Bwama Island parishes in Kitumba Sub county.
The council resolution had requested to transfer the villages of Bufuka and Katooma from Mwendo parish and villages of Kakooko, Kashambya and Kabumba from Bukoora Parish to Bwama Island parish.
Confirming the District council resolution, Minister Magyezi noted that Bwama Parish will now consist villages of Bufuka and Katooma Kakooko, Kashambya and Kabumba and Bwama Island.
Bukoora Parish will now consist of Rwakanyeire, Rukore, Nyakyato, Nyabwegyere, Mumabare, Kijureera, Kenyagwe, Kariko, Kanyankwanzi, Kakashenya, Kagugo, Kabira, Hamuganda, Buhobero and Bugandara villages.
O the hand, Mwendo Parish will consist of villages of Rwenkona, Nyamiyaga, Nyambugu, Nyakibande, Nyakeina, Nyakabungo, Mwirangizo, Mutaaba, Mugabi, Kyamarebura, Kiyoora, Kasinde, Karujabura, Kaforero, Kaburara, Kabungo and Kabisha.

The Kabale District Communications Officer, Alex Byakatonda, says that the Minister’s approval of the alignment of bounderies has come at the right time and will help to improve service delivery to the residents of the villages around lake Bunyonyi.
He adds that Bwama Island parish has been consisting of one village, which formed a parish, yet more than 90percent residents there have been civil servants, who work at Bwama Health center III, Bwama Primary school, Lake Bunyonyi Secondary school.
Byakatonda adds that e parish has been having 193million shillings of Parish Development Model funds unutilized adding that the process of identifying beneficiaries has immediately since the Minister approval takes immediate effect.

On 15th October 2024, the Commissioner in charge of Local Government councils, Swizin Mugyema Kinga, visited Bwama Island parish to ascertain and confirm the need for the approval of the District council resolution for the annexure and alteration of the boundaries.
